Quantum Mesh Establishes Business Partnership with ugo, Developer of Business DX Robots; Safely Protecting Japan’s Manufacturing Site Data via Edge Computing
Quantum Mesh Inc. (Pronunciation: Quantum Mesh / Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Hiroyuki Shinohara; hereinafter "Quantum Mesh") announces that it has established a business partnership with ugo Inc. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director and CEO: Ken Matsui; hereinafter "ugo"), a developer of business DX robots, to construct an edge computing infrastructure through robot and edge server collaboration designed to safely protect on-site data in Japan's manufacturing industry.
In this partnership, distributed edge data centers utilizing the liquid immersion cooling system "KAMUI" provided by Quantum Mesh will connect with ugo's robots via a network. By transmitting robot-generated and collected operation logs, sensor information, imitation learning data※1, and other assets to edge servers for instant processing, the partnership realizes low-latency, highly reliable real-time control. This completes data processing within on-site facilities—which was previously transmitted to cloud services—and leads to a significant reduction in the risk of data breaches.
Both companies will initiate demonstration experiments at actual production sites around the end of the year to verify the optimal collaboration model between robots and edge AI, with plans to commercialize the service within 2026, aiming for the nationwide expansion of safe and efficient smart factories.
※1: ugo's "Physical AI" and "Imitation Learning Kit for AI Robots"
"Physical AI," advocated by ugo, is a concept that links AI's learning capabilities to the physical actions of robots. Utilizing data taught and operated by humans, as well as sensor data accumulated on-site, the AI acquires work procedures through imitation learning and reinforcement learning.
Supporting this on-site AI training is the "Imitation Learning Kit for AI Robots" provided by ugo. This kit includes a dedicated bilateral controller for remotely operating the dual-armed robot "ugo Pro," and software tools to collect robot motion data and have the AI learn it. This makes it easy to transfer the expertise of skilled workers to robots, allowing on-site personnel to teach robots new actions without requiring specialized programming skills. Through this approach, rapid adaptation and continuous functional improvement are achieved after the robot's introduction at production sites.
Comment from Ken Matsui, Representative Director and CEO of ugo
"Robot operation data, operation logs, sensor values, imitation learning data, and other information obtained through robot utilization at manufacturing sites are critical and sensitive on-site assets, making a configuration that manages them with low latency and security indispensable. Through this partnership, we will establish an environment with Quantum Mesh, which excels in distributed edge data centers, to process and store data in real time at the factory edge, achieving both minimized data extraction and operational reliability, while promoting the social implementation of physical AI at manufacturing sites."
Comment from Hiroyuki Shinohara, Representative Director of Quantum Mesh
"Currently, while the integration of robots and AI is progressing at many sites, high-precision motion data and environmental sensor data generated at business operation sites in particular are extremely sensitive and valuable assets. It is Quantum Mesh's mission to provide an infrastructure platform that can process and utilize such on-site data more safely and in real time. Through this partnership, we will fuse the robotics data generated by ugo with our secure edge processing environment, establishing an environment where data that was previously processed in the cloud can be handled safely close to where the robots operate. This will achieve both low data latency and enhanced security, leading to the realization of next-generation solutions in smart factories and facility management."
◾️About "ugo," the Business DX Robot
"ugo" is a hybrid business DX robot that fuses remote control with automatic control by AI. Designed to flexibly respond to different facilities and tasks at each site—such as security, inspection, and guidance—robot selection and operation can also be customized. In business areas experiencing serious labor shortages, ugo supports business continuity, efficiency, and the realization of DX, not as a replacement for humans, but as a "partner collaborating with people.
