Quantum Mesh Begins Construction of Data Center in Takahama, Fukui: Establishing a High-Performance Computing Data Center to Address the AI/IoT Era, Aiming to Provide IoT Services in “Healthcare & Welfare,” “Tourism,” and “Disaster Prevention”
Quantum Mesh Inc. (Pronunciation: Quantum Mesh / Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Hiroyuki Shinohara; hereinafter "Quantum Mesh") announces that it has reached an agreement with Takahama Town, Fukui Prefecture regarding the installation of portable data centers and the implementation of cutting-edge DX, and has commenced construction of the data center.
Based on this agreement, construction of the data center "Takahama Drip 1" commenced in May, with completion scheduled for the end of September this year. This data center is the first facility developed by Quantum Mesh. By utilizing portable data units, the time required to begin operations is shortened compared to conventional projects, and the energy required for operations and overall costs are highly optimized. This reduces the environmental impact of construction and operations while supporting regional economic revitalization.
With the rapid progress of AI, particularly the globally expanding utilization of Generative AI, demand for data center establishment continues to increase. Quantum Mesh proposes the establishment of data centers using domestic advanced semiconductors with world-class security required for the safe and secure management and utilization of circulating information assets (data), data storage, and regional revitalization through various cutting-edge DX projects starting from data centers.
Takahama Town, Fukui Prefecture is a municipality located at the westernmost tip of the Hokuriku region in the prefectural Reinan area. It possesses rich tourism resources derived from its abundant nature, and a further influx of tourists is anticipated with the extension of the Hokuriku Shinkansen. Aiming to become a more attractive town for both residents and visitors, the town endorsed the domestic data center and town development proposed by Quantum Mesh, leading to the decision to install the data center within the town. In IoT businesses starting from the data center, the following initiatives are possible:
1. Healthcare & Welfare Field
Developing devices and applications to monitor the health status of residents in remote areas and the elderly, aiming to improve medical access and promote preventive medicine. Furthermore, developing and providing robots and wearable devices to support the independence and monitoring of the elderly and disabled, striving to enrich welfare services and reduce burdens.
2. Tourism Field
Developing and providing applications that introduce local tourism resources and events, as well as systems that analyze the movements and satisfaction levels of tourists, leading to the promotion of regional charm and tourism.
3. Safety, Security & Disaster Prevention Field
Promoting daily safety and security initiatives utilizing IoT, and constructing systems that collect, analyze, and communicate regional information in real time in preparation for disasters such as earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanic fires to ensure the safety of town residents.
Quantum Mesh will support the enhancement of various administrative services for town residents and tourists, achieving a town that is easy to live in and visit. Additionally, the company will strive to generate new economic effects through corporate attraction and investments from companies and organizations seeking to utilize the sophisticated computing power provided by the data center.
■ Future Outlook
Toward completion in September, Quantum Mesh plans to proceed with preparations for operation, including the local hiring of data center staff. Furthermore, in cooperation with Takahama Town, the company will work on attracting companies that provide systems and services contributing to residents' lives and businesses, promoting the utilization of the newly established data center.
By establishing this initiative as a model case for regional revitalization and regional economic promotion driven by data centers, the company will contribute to the further development of regional economies through the safe utilization of data across Japan, starting from the data center in Takahama Town.
